«Eyes of dog, heart of deer» Achilles curses Agamemnon who had taken away his slave Briseis. A quote from the Iliad. Professor Gustaf Boman doesn’t understand who would want to send him such a message. And instead, every day he keeps receiving an anonymous letter with quotes from the classics. Why?

Disillusioned and nostalgic, Gustaf has been living for years alone in his apartment in Stockholm, dedicating his existence to a last study on antiquity: a book about the myth of Pandora and the Hope contained in her box.

Also Hesiod, the Greek poet who 2,500 years earlier sang the myth of the first woman, becomes part of this story. Like Gustaf, he too lives in memory and renounces his tomorrows. But Hope continues to live in the world. And it is not true that time only destroys. Time opens new paths; it offers chances. And for Gustaf the chance arrives in the form of a visit: his 16 year-old niece, Beatrice, who is coming from Italy. Also for her will arrive the moment to open herself to the world and love. Chance puts Erik in her path. But who is that young man really? Has Beatrice made a mistake in trusting him?

On New Year’s Eve – the night in which present, past and future touch each other for a moment – all the answers will arrive.

“An intense and kaleidoscopic story, sensually written, that brings back the great themes of the classics. A debut that is brazenly old-fashioned and, at the same time, seductively modern”.

“A polished and intense writing that builds a story filled with immortal themes such age, death and youth, with its valuable and explosive strength. Everything is lightened up by a fascinating plot that becomes a mystery. A suggestive and complex work”.
