Synopsis
It seems like an ordinary day ahead of Ilaria one morning in June at 7 a.m., announced by her mobile set for an alarm. All the signs, all her gestures foretold that also this Wednesday would slip away like thousands of other days in the existence of a young couple with a daughter. But, suddenly, the silence of the last moments of sleep stolen from the day’s tasks is broken by a long gasp, an inarticulate sound that swallows an entire world with its dreams and hopes. Her husband Paolo dies in bed that Wednesday which has no more something normal about it. Now, for Ilaria and her daughter Chiara the curtain raises on a scene unexpectedly deprived of its leading man and on a future that is difficult to imagine. What will happen after the sad and painful funeral rites, after the moments of comfort offered by friends and acquaintances? Though Ilaria makes an effort to cancel the tragedy at first, in order to go on living her life with her daughter, little by little the “resounding” absence of her companion sinks her into a kind of tormented exile from herself until… With a fine and cutting prose, Sabina Spada gives the reader a powerful and truthful story, narrated through the eyes of one who knows that only the joy of living germinated from pain can change the destiny of a person. A debut with a strong impact, a novel having all the qualities for becoming a literary phenomenon.
