On the Line of the Equator

traduzione di Gian M. Giughese

&Among Mike Horn’s dreams there was a very particular voyage: starting from Libreville on the coast of Gabon, and travelling around the world following the line of the equator. So, one day in spring, he started off on his trip around the world in 500 days: on foot, by pirogue, sailing, by mountain bike, across the Atlantic, the Pacific, the Indian Ocean, Africa, Latin America and Asia, moving along that invisible line at zero latitude, and never further than forty kilometres away from it. An adventure of days gone by, because Horn wanted no 21st century technology and relied only on his own physical strength. Like Ulysses, he knew how to follow his dream to the very end: he pushed himself to the utmost of human limits and further than human knowledge of the world; he rediscovered the struggle between the individual and the forces of nature in its truest sense.
